Jet Steam Cirrus
I’m sure a lot of you were on your tractors in June, looking down at your fields as you harvested. But if you happened to look up, there were some days in June with some beautiful cloud formations. Unlike the usual thunderstorm eye-candy, these were often cirrus clouds, due in part to the presence of the jet stream in our vicinity throughout the month. Cirrus clouds are made up of ice crystals, not liquid droplets. They are higher in the atmosphere than most clouds, usually around 30,000 feet above ground level.
Here’s some examples of what I saw last month.
