Thursday Showers

Our dry weekend cool front has moved through giving us our expected windy Sunday. Monday will drop back into the 70s but that doesn’t last long as high pressure will bring us right back into the 80s for Tuesday and Wednesday. This is ahead of the next Pacific weather system due arrive on Thursday. Tuesday and Wednesday morning should have light winds and dew points in the 40s so expect a light to moderate dew.

As we talked about in the previous blog, this next weather system will go right over us, instead of moving by to our north like this weekend system did. And the difference in track will mean a difference in weather. Instead of just wind like we got on Sunday, the system on Thursday will bring us the threat of rain showers. The probability of showers has been increasing, now above 50%.

You can see in the graphic above that there actually is a small chance of rain on Wednesday.  This would mainly be from sprinkles ahead of the front and shouldn’t amount to much if any rain.  But a few of the computer forecasts do show enough rain to wet the ground from these showers.  So only a 10% chance of any rain on Wednesday, and even less of a chance that we’d see measurable rain. That said, if you have baled hay in the field, it may be a consideration for you.

The rain amounts on Thursday could be around a tenth of an inch, with the best chance of rain near the BC border.  Here’s the National Blend of Models forecast of rainfall amounts.  It’s rather pessimistic, especially south and west of Spokane.

The European model has some heavier pockets of rain, as well as a bit more rain in the Basin.

The GFS model is in some ways similar to the European model.

Winds on Wednesday and Thursday will be breezy.  This will eliminate any chances for dew on Thursday morning.

This storm moves by quickly.  After a high only around 70F on Thursday, temperatures will warm to around 80F by Saturday.

You can see a couple of other items of note from the images above. First, we could see some more showers next Sunday and Monday. The details on this are pretty vague at this point. Also, things could be breezy during this period as well as the following week. This would be good for drying hay but could affect dew formation.
